About CST
Casino Security Training
is a new branch of the Casino Surveillance News business. CSN was founded in 2002. In 2008, CSN branched out to include very basic levels of Security training for casino security officers.
The CSN founder, Jim Goding (see below) had already by 2008 been working for five years as an investigator and Supervisor in Surveillance and a trainer, and had received some of the best training in Casino Games Protection available. He had worked for many years very closely with former Nevada Gaming Control agent Gary Powell, one of the best in the business and a successful security and surveillance consultant.
Jim Goding, the writer and co-author of the courses listed, is a Certified Protection Officer and a Certified Surveillance Professional.
In 2008, Jim and Gary pooled their knowledge in the hope that the basic instruction they could provide for casino Security Officers would help in the problems they had witnessed over the years and thus reduce casino and officer liability resulting from lack of basic-level training.
Training provided by CSN over the years between 2002 and 2008 was directed at basic levels of training most needed in casino surveillance, expanding over the years to include Evidence Handling, Law Enforcement liaison, and many, many games. CSN provides training in Slots Protection, Table Games Protection, Cheating and Internal Theft protection in all parts of the casino environment.
In 2008, Casino Security Officer basic level training was added to the list, and he has received very good reviews for his work in this area from casino Security Supervisors, Managers, Gaming Regulators and others. The focus is on providing the knowledge necessary to safeguard Security officers from unintentional and unnecessary liabilities, as well as safeguard the casino employers.
Jim wrote the courses for the other major provider of training to Indian casinos in Surveillance.
CSN courses set the standard for casino surveillance training.
We don’t sell our training with fear. We teach practical realities, and we bring them home through real examples from real situations.
If anyone ever tries to tell you they know everything about gaming, about casinos, and that there is no question they cannot answer, turn your back and run away.
Casino Surveillance News courses teach from what we have learned in many years of gaming, surveillance, security and law enforcement experience. Jim writes and delivers the course materials, has trained with and worked with the best in the business, both in Surveillance and in Security. We have made the mistakes, and we learn from others no matter where we go. We pass on what we have learned in the past and what we learn every day to you, hoping you can avoid the same mistakes otehrs have made.

About Jim Goding, CSP, CPO
Jim Goding writes and provides practical training in the everyday realities of the casino gaming industry, designed to increase profits through reducing casino vulnerability and liabilities with practical, in-depth training in Surveillance, Security, Gaming Regulation and Administration.
Jim’s classes and seminars have been delivered in private, corporate and native casinos across North America and in other areas internationally.
Jim is one of the first people to receive the Casino Surveillance Professional certification, and in fact contributed to the training required for this certification. He is also a Certified Protection Officer, and has applied much of his Security training to both Casino Security and Casino Surveillance training classes and programs.
He is a respected professional in the field of Casino Surveillance and Security.
Jim has also received training in a number of other fields, include hotel management, management in general, and management in the publishing field. Jim applies all of his various levels of training to both his jobs and his main business, Casino Surveillance News, especially in passing the most valuable and workable parts of that training to others.
Jim’s textbook is in use worldwide. Casino Surveillance Operations Manual has been used by several universities in their casino surveillance training and administration courses, is in use at more than 200 casinos in America and internationally, and has been translated into Russian, Italian and Spanish.
Despite his accomplishments and training in these various fields, Jim has one prime consideration that he would like to pass on to you:
“Never believe that you know it all. Find something to learn in every situation. Every single person that you talk to, every single day, has something they can teach you.
” I have taught courses in corporate casinos, native casinos, international casinos, and have taught people in my home town who traveled internationally just to see me and learn what I have to teach.
“I have learned something new from every class, from every person, and I will continue to learn and to try to pass on what I have learned.”

Jim is not a really conventional person, and has a tendency to think out of the box. He trains people to THINK WITH the information he passes on, so that his trainees can see implications, other threats associated, and detect such threats when they exist.
He has more than twenty years in the casino business, and has been in Casino Surveillance for more than ten years, including teaching surveillance as a professional in the field since 2002.
He trained under some of the best people in the business, including Gary Powell, who had nine years in Nevada Gaming Control before they made acquaintance; Derk Boss, renowned and consulted by major casinos for his work in internal theft and cheating and currently teaching at University of Nevada Las Vegas. Jim has worked with and learned from the best in the business.
Jim’s personal talent is in writing and making the things he has learned useful and real to the average person, in teaching things he has learned, and in learning something new from every single person he interacts with, and in passing along everything he has learned to others, in a way that makes it real and useful. Whether teaching in classes to individuals, or in writing procedures and training programs, Jim makes it real and useful to the average individual.
When training, Jim does not do card tricks or other forms of dog and pony show.
Jim refuses to sell his training through fear. His training and his programs are dedicated to confronting actual problems and actual threats, and he refuses to make problems more threatening than they are. As a result, his training is based on the real world, on real threats, on things that have actually happened to create bottom-line threats to the casinos, on how to PREVENT these problems at minimal cost, and when prevention has failed, on how to detect and handle the cheats and thieves, both external and within the casino itself, who actually pose a threat to the bottom line.
